LASIK

LASIK is an acronym for Laser In-situ Keratomileusis, a refractive treatment for the eye. Refractive surgery is a procedure that alters a person's need for glasses or contact lenses.

LASIK is the most widely recognized, safe, and reliable vision correction methodology. While it seems the procedure is "new" in the U.S., it is actually over 15 years old and combines the best of "corneal flap" procedures with the latest computer/laser technology.

After reasonable success in many other countries around the world and after reviewing meticulous and irrefutable research, the Excimer Laser (PRK) was FDA approved in 1995. Since 1997, the improved procedure known as LASIK has become popular worldwide among eye surgeons and FDA approved in 1999.

Dr. Allison has had the procedure himself...and performs the treatment on an "out-patient basis" using the latest VISX Excimer laser with WaveFront technology including WaveScan and 3D ActiveTrak technology.

Persons who suffer from Myopia, Hyperopia, Astigmatism (see following pages for detailed definitions) or combinations of these challenges can now seek help from Dr. Allison. To determine if your condition can be treated with LASIK, ask about our free screening. In minutes Dr. Allison's staff can determine if LASIK is for you.

The procedure is done in his office at the Warren Eye Clinic in Tulsa, using eye drop anesthesia, and while you may feel pressure, the technique is generally not painful. First, a unique LASER known as IntraLase makes a protective flap in the outer layer of the cornea. Next the Excimer Laser sculpts the internal corneal tissue to the correct refractive power by altering the curvature of the exposed corneal tissue. The "changed" cornea allows light rays to focus more directly on the retina, thereby reducing vision challenges. The corneal flap is laid back in its original position. Due to the cornea's extraordinary natural bonding qualities, the flap seals without sutures.
