The PreLex Procedure

PreLex uses a new technology with a proven procedure.

Millions of eyes have received lens implants using the same surgical techniques required for PreLex for other conditions, like cataracts. It is performed on an outpatient basis and takes only a few minutes for the surgery itself.

  1. On the day of surgery you will receive a local anesthetic for the eye.

  2. The surgeon will then make a micro-opening (less than 3 millimeters!) in your cornea and will use a special instrument to separate your natural lens into tiny pieces and then remove those pieces from the eye.

  3. The multi-focal lens will be inserted through the opening and placed into its position.

  4. The small size of the opening means that you won't need stitches because it seals itself shut when the procedure is completed.

  5. You will typically go home and relax for the remainder of the day. Many patients report an immediate improvement in their vision after PreLex, and you can resume your normal activities within a day or two.

PreLex is usually performed on the second eye within a week or two of the first procedure. Your doctor will study how your first eye adapts after the procedure, and will use that information to determine how to provide maximum benefit when the procedure is performed on the second eye.
